Fergus is sinking: his son, Alfie, is a nightmare, Sweden is impossible, and there is a baby crying at all hours somewhere in the building. He is beginning to wish he'd never agreed to leave his law career in London to move to Stockholm with his successful wife, Tess. He sets out to find the baby, to see if he can help, or at least offer parental commiserations, but every door in the building is – literally or metaphorically – slammed in his face. To top it all, Alfie seems to have reverted to baby talk, jabbering nonsensical words to himself all day long. Will their encounter with a neighbour explain any of Alfie's behaviour?
